Tools

MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry makes it possible to easily and accurately determine the molecular weight of peptides. Confirmation of identity and purity of synthesized peptides by detection of unblocked contaminants allows to assess whether a given synthesis was successful and whether a particular fraction contains the product of interest. The same applies to synthesized small molecules and oligonucleotides.

Instrument Description

Mass Spectrometry Instrumentation

Matrix Assisted Laser Desorbtion Ionization (MALDI) technique involves embedding the analyte in a solid matrix which adsorbs energy at the wavelength of the laser. Because of the laser pulses that evaporate the sample are extremely short time-of-flight (TOF) analyzer is particularly good for MALDI source. Ions accelerate in an electric field, and their flight time (from source to detector) is proportional to their m/z ratio.
